Acrylic CNC Machining Complete Process and Heat Control Techniques

2026-07-10

Many acrylic accessories, precision equipment protectors, and 镂空 cultural and creative decorative items require CNC numerical control carving processing. Many customers cannot distinguish between laser cutting and CNC carving applications, and they are also unclear about defects such as melting edges, chipping edges, and white stress on the plate during the carving process. Dongguan Shangsheng Acrylic is equipped with multiple dedicated acrylic CNC carving machines. Standardized processing parameters are developed based on the properties of acrylic, which has poor heat resistance and is relatively brittle. Below, the complete processing process and core heat control techniques are completely analyzed.

The pre-processing stage before processing is the basis for avoiding defects. First, select brand new acrylic plate material. After peeling off the surface protective film, use a dust-free cloth paired with denatured alcohol to wipe the oil and mold release agent on the plate surface. After completely drying, lay it flat on the processing table. Place a soft rubber padded board under the plate bottom. Add silicone pads at the clamping positions to avoid metal clamps directly pressing the plate, which could cause impressions and internal stress. For thin 2-5mm plates, use vacuum adhesion fixation. For plates 10mm and thicker, pair them with dispersed multi-point clamps, with single point pressure not too high to prevent the plate from cracking during clamping. When programming the drawing, optimize the tool path, prioritize the up-milling cutting mode, and control the single cut depth between 0.3-0.5mm, avoiding deep cutting at once to reduce cutting heat accumulation. The tool must be a special single-edged spiral milling tool for acrylic. Ordinary metal milling tools have a sharpness that does not match, making it easy to scratch the plate and cause foggy edges.

Temperature control during the carving cutting stage is crucial. Acrylic's melting point is only around 160°C. The high temperature generated by cutting friction will melt the material and stick to the tool, forming slag in the carving gaps, leaving foggy scratches after cleaning. The standard temperature control plan in the workshop: the spindle speed stays stable between 12000-15000 rpm, and the feed speed is adjusted to 800-1000mm/min, with a high-pressure cooling air gun continuously blowing at the cutting points to dissipate heat. For large area 镂空 and deep groove carving, use segmented processing, pausing for

Many small workshops in the industry use ordinary metal blades and non-continuous air-cooled processing, resulting in common defects such as melting edges, whitening, and broken corners in carved products, with extremely high scrap rates. Shangsheng workshops are fully equipped with three major configurations: specialized blades, air-cooled cooling, and flexible fixtures, keeping the defect rate of mass-produced carved products at an extremely low level. Selection recommendations: For simple flat or straight sheet materials, use laser cutting for cutting; for deep hollowing, three-dimensional grooves, and precision irregular convex and concave structures, prioritize CNC numerical control carving. Using both processes in combination can balance processing efficiency and product precision, meeting the diverse customization needs of cultural and creative and industrial parts.
