Acrylic product assembly cannot be separated from the bonding process. In the market, there are two types of bonding processes: conventional fast-drying bonding and seamless invisible bonding. The two processes show significant differences in finished product appearance, strength, processing time, and pricing. Many customers cannot distinguish the applicable scenarios of the two processes, and choosing the wrong process can affect the overall quality of the finished product. Below, we will explain the principles, advantages, disadvantages, and applicable ranges of the two bonding processes based on workshop operations.
Conventional bonding is the basic processing technology in the industry. Liquid fast-drying acrylic glue is used to directly apply to the seams of the bonded panels. The glue melts the contact surfaces of the acrylic quickly, fusing and fixing them. The advantages are fast processing speed, simple operation, and low consumable costs, making it suitable for large quantities of affordable display racks and simple storage boxes. The disadvantages are very prominent: the glue seepage can easily form white mist marks on the surface of the panels, and the seams are clearly visible to the naked eye. The white mist on transparent panels severely reduces the transparency and texture; the cured glue has a brittle texture, and large pieces of products are prone to cracking at the bonding points under long-term stress; it cannot be used for high-end cultural and creative products or premium store displays, and is only suitable for ordinary custom orders with low appearance requirements and limited budgets. The processing process is simple, and applying the glue and letting it sit for十几 minutes is sufficient to transfer to the next process. The workshop can produce large quantities daily, and the processing quotation is low.
Seamless invisible bonding belongs to high-end precision technology, which is divided into two operation methods: solvent soaking bonding and sanding and polishing sealing. The core of the processing is to eliminate the bonding seams and prevent white mist on the surface. Before processing, the bonding surfaces of the panels are finely polished with diamond polishing to ensure that the contact surfaces of the two panels are perfectly flat and bonded. A small amount of specialized seamless solvent slowly penetrates and fuses, with very little glue used, which will not overflow and pollute the surface. After curing, the bonding positions are finely sanded and polished, and then the entire piece is polished and brightened. When observed through the transparent product, the bonding seams are almost invisible, without white mist or discoloration, appearing transparent and clean. Most high-end acrylic ornaments, luxury display racks, and transparent storage boxes choose this process.
The shortcomings of seamless bonding are also very obvious: the processing steps are cumbersome and time-consuming, and the processing time for bonding a single product is more than 3 times that of conventional bonding. It requires extremely high operator proficiency, and operational errors can easily result in white mist, with a higher scrap rate than conventional bonding. The increase in labor and consumable costs leads to a corresponding increase in custom quotes. At the same time, it is difficult to set the shape of large and heavy products for seamless bonding, making it more suitable for small and medium-sized exquisite acrylic products.
Scenario selection suggestion: For ordinary affordable shelves and outdoor simple signs, with limited budgets and no high appearance requirements, choose conventional bonding; for offline premium stores, cultural and creative blind boxes, display cabinets, and transparent decorative ornaments, prioritize seamless bonding for a high-end transparent visual effect.
Many customers initially chose standard bonding to save costs. However, the visible white fog in the gaps of the finished products failed to meet the store display standards, requiring rework and additional time and financial losses. Before custom ordering, confirm the bonding process with the sales staff and match the corresponding processing plan based on the product positioning to achieve acrylic products that meet expectations in one go.
