Transparent acrylic main body with a transparent texture, white fog appearing in gaps and internal bubbles after bonding will severely reduce the quality of the finished product. Many customers have reported this issue upon receiving their products. The causes are divided into three categories: factory processing operations, adhesive selection, and customer usage environment. Complete prevention and remediation solutions are provided to eliminate defects from the processing source.
First: Incorrect adhesive selection. Ordinary fast-drying adhesives have a high evaporation rate, leaving residual gases in the gaps between the panels. When observed through transparent panels, large areas of white fog appear, which is the most common cause. Fast-drying adhesives are only suitable for budget-friendly panels that do not prioritize transparency. High-end transparent ornaments and light-transmitting display frames must use low-volatility, traceless, and environmentally friendly solvent adhesives. These adhesives have fine molecules, minimal volatile substances, and are less prone to white fog after splicing. Inexpensive fast-drying adhesives are cost-effective and commonly used in small workshops, making it easy for transparent finished products to appear white.
Second: Inadequate surface preparation of the bonding area. Dust, mold release oil residue, and polishing wax remain on the edges of the panels being joined. When the two panels are pressed together, impurities prevent the adhesive from fusing, forming point-like bubbles. Standard workshop operation: Diamond polish the joining surfaces of the panels before bonding, wipe them clean with alcohol to remove dust and oil, allow them to dry without moisture, and then apply adhesive and join. This eliminates the obstruction of impurities to fusion.
Third: Incorrect control of adhesive application. Excessive adhesive application causes it to overflow the panel surface, and the solvent corrodes the acrylic surface, forming white fog. Insufficient adhesive application leaves gaps underfilled, allowing air to remain and forming long bubbles. Thin panels use point-like, minimal adhesive application, while thick panels use thin, even adhesive application along the entire length. Control the amount to perfectly fill the joining gaps without overflow or shortage.
Fourth: Excessive temperature difference in the curing environment. Immediately transferring the bonded product to a high-temperature, highly ventilated area causes the adhesive to rapidly evaporate and contract, resulting in bubbles and white fog in the gaps. Standard operation: After joining and fixing, place the product in a room-temperature, windless workshop to cure. Thin panels should be left to cure for 30 minutes, while thick panels should be left for 1 hour or more. Only then should the product be moved, stacked, or printed.
Fifth: Gaps and bubbles caused by internal stress cracking of the panels. If panels are bent or printed and not allowed to release stress before bonding, the stress after bonding causes the gaps to widen, allowing air to seep in and form bubbles. For bent or embossed printed products, allow them to rest for 24 hours to release stress before bonding and assembly.
Solution for minor flaws: Small dot-like white mist, tiny bubbles can be repaired by applying a traceless solvent adhesive in small amounts to the gaps, allowing it to sit and blend to fade the white mist; large-area white mist, long strip bubbles, internal hollowing cannot be repaired, can only be disassembled and re-polished for secondary bonding.
Maintenance attention after customer receives the finished product: Do not use alcohol to wipe the bonding gaps immediately after receiving the goods, as the adhesive has not fully cured deeply. Alcohol erosion will worsen the white mist; avoid placing in high-temperature environments for long periods, as high temperatures will accelerate the evaporation of the adhesive, leading to secondary whitening later.
Shangsheng Acrylic distinguishes product tiers and matches adhesives. Transparent high-end display racks, cultural and creative ornaments all use traceless environmentally friendly solvent adhesives. Standardized worker control the amount of adhesive application, ensure sufficient curing and resting time, full inspection of finished products under strong light, directly rework products with bubbles or white mist, not allowing them to enter the packing and shipping stage, to the greatest extent ensure the transparent acrylic's transparent and traceless visual effect, reduce customer's post-adhesion flaw feedback.
